CHAD KORTAN

HEAD WRENCH

Chad has enjoyed bikes since his cousin and older brother taught him to ride a John Deere muscle bike on the farm in South Dakota around 1976. Twenty years later, his wife, Yvette,  got him a job at the Bike and Bean in Sedona, Arizona where their mechanical mentor was also an avant-garde sax player who instilled the value of a clean work place and attention to detail. This is where they realized that the bike shop is more than just a place to buy a bike or have one fixed, but can be a community hub where people meet to enjoy cycling. After living and wrenching in Reno for twelve years, they have decided to open up shop with these values in mind.

nick pennetti

young lion

Nick is from Pennsylvania. He was bike touring through Vermont when he ran into P.J. at Green Mountain Bikes in Rochester.  We used to work with P.J. at the BIke & Bean. He told Nick he should go work at The Dropout, so that's what he did.  He was an auto mechanic for nine years, and then he found out that bikes are fun, so he switched gears and has worked his way up from assembler to shop manager and even went to Hawaii to work the Ironman race. He also works at High Sierra Cycling on the south side of town, so he has quickly immersed himself in the scene.

Yvette Kortan

Lady of the house

Yvette makes it all happen.  She was the one to encourage Craig to hire Chad at The Sedona Bike & Bean Shoppe.  She was the one to encourage Chad to open their own space and held it all together the first year behind the scenes, making sure bills were paid and providing extra financial support when we needed it.  Now she is at the shop full time helping out in every aspect, like customer support, parts runs, refurbs and wheelbuilding, she does it all!
